Coach of the Year Recipient
Mark Nold
Apollo High School

Mark Nold started as the head boys basketball coach at Apollo six years ago, winning only two games his first season. Since then he has turned the basketball program around through team-building, discipline and the introduction of a character coach. Thanks to Mark’s leadership, the Hawks have won the 4A state title for the last three years. Mark will be coaching at Perry High School next year.

Tennis

Nguyen captured the Central Region singles title and helped lead Mountain Pointe to the Class 5A Division I boys team finals, then captured the 5A-I state singles championship by defeating Tucson Salpointe Catholic's Ian Mordaunt in two sets.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association Academy (AIA Academy) is pleased to announce the fourth annual Steps to a Healthy Future: Celebrating Girls in Sport symposium, a free one-day educational celebration of female interscholastic sport and physical activity participation.

The event will be held at Xavier College Preparatory on March 27, 2008 from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m, featuring keynote speaker and Nike distance runner Kara Goucher.
